Abstract: The German Yugoslav Winter School on Proteinases and their Inhibitors is a smallinternational meeting, especially for younger scientists. Since 1982 it was held each winterand organized alternatively by the Department of Biochemistry, Institute Jozef Stefan,Ljubljana and the Abteilung für Klinische Chemie und Klinische Biochemie in derChirurgischen Klinik Innenstadt der Universität München.The main aim of the Winter School is to present and discuss in detail recent results ofresearch activities performed at the participating institutes. Lectures are presented bygraduate students, postdocs and senior scientists. In addition, two or three invited speakersare reviewing fundamental and applied aspects of proteinases and their inhibitors. This yearwe had the great pleasure to welcome J. Travis, Georgia, USA and W.-D. Schleuning, Berlinwho joined our meeting.These informal and encouraging workshops are held within the frame of the German YugoslavGovernmental Agreement signed in 1969 as well as agreements betweenYUZAMS and BMFT and KFA Jülich.We are grateful to the International Bureau of KFA Jülich and especially to Dr. JohannaKrawczynski for their continuous support, which enables us to organize these lively andstimulating scientific discussions. The organization is supported additionally by funds of theparticipating institutions and since 1989 by the BMFT project PBE 0319208 A.
